In Proclamation No. 889, former Pres. Corazon Aquino declared November 10 – 16 of every year as Deaf Awareness Week.  Ms. Lila Simon, the information officer of the National Council For The Welfare Of Disabled Persons(NCWDP),  personally provided us with information on this event.

The theme for this year is “Silence Speaks Beyond Barrier through…. Collaboration for Advocacy and Empowerment” or  ”Mga Hadlang, Buwagin… Mga Hinaing ay Dinggin.”   The Philippine School for the Deaf (PSD), represented by Dr. Yolanda Capulong, is the lead agency in this year’s Deaf Awareness Week celebration.

The opening ceremonies was held last November 10, 2007 at PSD while the culminating activity will be at  Southeast Asian Institute for the Deaf (SAID), headed by Ms. Carol Ui,  on November 16, 2007.  The rest of the week’s activities are decentralized to all other member schools- private and public, goverment agencies, and other participating GOs and NGOs.
