Benitez Theater, College of Education,
University of the Philippines, Diliman,
Quezon City, Philippines
Resource Speaker — Rosario Margarita A. Aligada, PhD
This seminar aims to help adults who are involved in a child’s learning, 1) to gain a realistic insight into learning disorders (i.e., a wide range of learning difficulties that may or may not result in discrepancies between a child’s intelligence and achievement tests), and 2) To encourage these adults to make a much-needed paradigm shift from being a teacher or parent to being an academic learning coach. The ultimate goal of the seminar is to provide adults with information that will allow them to empower students with learning disorders to see themselves as resilient beings who have personal strengths and weaknesses.
Contents of the seminar include a glimpse into different learning functions (e.g., attention, memory, language, visual-spatial abilities, sequencing), how these functions work together and how these affect a child’s performance in school. Strategies to help the child address learning difficulties will be presented as well.
