The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy recently published a practice guide developed by the Association of Paediatric Chartered Physiotherapists for all physiotherapists working with children.

It covers issues such as child protection, physiotherapists’ legal responsibilities and required competencies, along with current policy and targets across the UK. It also includes chapters on leisure and activity groups for children with disabilities.

Ms Dawson said: ‘There is a broad spectrum of issues that practitioners and managers need to be aware of in order to fully address the needs of babies, children and young people.

‘Many physiotherapists who do not consider themselves paediatric practitioners treat children, or observe children with the families of patients, and should be aware of responsibilities towards their well-being. This document provides signposts to further information and guidance when needed. And it is a useful tool for departments, as it provides a central resource of information.’
