Autism Society Philippines’ Activities for May 2008

Autism Society Philippines (ASP) will be holding the following workshops/seminars for the month of May.

A. TEACCHing at HOME and in SCHOOL

The session will enable participants to understand structured teaching as an effective teaching strategy for children with autism and related Pervasive Developmental Disorders (PDD) and be familiar with the basic applications, at home and in school, of Physical Structure, Schedules, Work Systems, and Task Organization.

Erlinda “Dang” Koe is currently the President of Autism Society Philippines. She “re-engineered” her home to facilitate structured teaching for her son with autism. She is a sought-after conference and seminar speaker, and travels around the country as such. She finished her Masters in Communication at the University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City.


Adolescents and young adults with special needs often require specialized intervention to be equipped with work behaviors and skills necessary for future vocational pursuits. Pre-vocational training programs offer practical opportunities to help students transition from simulated to actual work environments. The workshop aims to define prevocational training programs, present time-lines in pre-vocational skills training, discuss assessment procedures to determine the student’s interests and skills, and to present common intervention strategies.

Abelardo Apollo “Archie” David is the Executive Director of the Independent Living Learning Center (ILLC). He is an assistant professor at the UP-Manila College of Allied Medical Professions. Teacher Archie finished his Masters in Occupational Therapy at the University of Queensland, Australia.

This seminar-workshop aims to equip caregivers with basic knowledge and skills on the care and management of a child with autism (CWA). Apart from knowledge enhancement, participants will be able to sharpen their skills on behavior management through discussion, workshops and actual demonstrations (a CWA will participate during the training) of different behavior management strategies in dealing with the challenging behaviors of CWA.

Noemi Viado is a Trustee of ASP. She is the founder and School Directress of GS Option House for Autism and Related Disorders in Biñan, Laguna. Rosalyn Marie Sorongon earned her BS Psychology at Assumption College, Makati. She is currently finishing her masteral thesis in Special Education at UP, Diliman.

On-site registrants will be accepted depending on the availability of slots. There will only be 80 slots available for A & B seminar, and 60 slots for C. No refund will be given to participants who do not show up on the date of the seminar.
