The 27th of October is WFOT International Day. This is an opportunity taken by the World Federation of Occupational Therapists to “heighten the visibility of the profession’s development work and to promote the activities of WFOT locally and nationally.” They hope to integrate this day with other national celebrations and promotions of the mission and goals of occupational therapy.
In many parts of the world, October is the month to celebrate occupational therapy. Our participating member country organizations and their educational programs are reaching out to their communities with pulic awareness activities in the form of advertisements, posters, public lectures, radio and television interviews, short client focused profiles and fund raisers for WFOT International Day.
International day is intended to showcase the global perspective of the profession. It is a time to focus on the many projects of the WFOT and its member organizations to promote the international development of occupational therapy education programs and services, the needs of clients in developing countries and emerging economies and the power of occupation in affecting well being and health.
International day is also intended as a vehicle to engage or introduce students to the WFOT. Universities are encouraged to support their student in fund raising for the international projects of their choosing.
We encourage you all to undertake a fund raiser large or small to support the WFOT in meeting its mandate internationally.
