The 3rd International Cerebral Palsy Conference is presentation of different keynotes speakers from all over the world who have conducted different researches and studies about CP. It was more of a discussion of issues and some modifications and new approach of treatment of CP. I have no idea if the Standard Classification of CP is being used in the Philippines, the GMFCS Level I-V which can greatly help us evaluate and classify our CP patients based on their Gross Motor Function.
There are some hands on techniques which is presented by some of their sponsors like how to use Theratogs- the use of elastic suit which can help improve posture, different dynamic orthoses, and what really amazed me is the advancement of communication, wherein CP patient who cannot able to speak or use their hands in communicating can use their eyes by just looking at the computer. They can spell, or look at the pictures and activities they want to perform.
I had also the chance to meet different therapists and Doctors mostly are neurologists and orthopedic surgeons from all over the world. Among the 1030 delegates I met only one filipina who is already working as a Physiotherapist in Australia. I guess, we should invest in attending this kind of conference. It was not only gaining knowledge but also having fun because I had the chance to see how beautiful Sydney is. Your 700 AUD is worth the experience , because it also includes Harbour Cruise (see the Harbour Bridge and Opera House) and Bondi Beach Package. Drink and Eat All You Can Mate!
FYI, the 4th International CP Conference will be held in Italy on 2012.
