Seminar-Workshop Series for Clinical Supervisors and Clinical Instructors

The Philippine Physical Therapy Association (PPTA) Educators Special Interest Group and the University of Santo Tomas College of Rehabilitation Sciences would like to invite all interested to a Seminar-Workshop Series for Clinical Supervisors and Clinical Instructors. Detailed description of modules follows.

Course Description

Module 1: Clinical Training Program Enhancement Workshop for Clinical Supervisors and Clinical Instructors

February 21, 2009, Saturday, 8 AM to 5 PM and February 22, 2009, Sunday, 8 AM to 12 NN

The seminar/workshop will provide knowledge of concepts which will help clinical training program planners in improving their existing clinical training programs or developing new ones, so that student training in the clinical setting will be truly relevant to the students.

General Objective
Increase the participants’ knowledge of clinical training program design and how it can be operationalized in their own institutions.

Specific Objectives
At the end of the seminar, the participants will be able to:

1. Describe clinical training programs and their purpose.

2. Identify specific characteristics unique to their institution which should be considered in the design of an appropriate and responsive clinical training program.

3. Describe elements of clinical training program design.

4. Draft a clinical training program for their own institution.

Module 2: Skills Enhancement Workshop for Clinical Instructors

March 14, 2009, Saturday, 8 AM to 5 PM

The seminar-workshop will help clinical instructors enhance their skills in clinical teaching, supervision, and evaluation of students to make them more effective in their role as educators in
the clinical setting.

General Objective
Enhance clinical instructors’ skills in clinical teaching, supervision and evaluation of students.

Specific Objectives
At the end of the seminar, the participants will be able to:

1. Select the most appropriate clinical teaching strategy to address specific training objectives.

2. Describe how proper supervision of students can be done in the clinical setting.

3. Explain the importance of providing students with appropriate and timely feedback in improvement of their skills.

4. Explain how students’ performance can be objectively evaluated based on set training objectives.

The seminar-workshop will provide clinical supervisors with basic knowledge on program evaluation which will help them regularly appraise their clinical training programs for continuous
improvement.

General Objective
Provide participants with basic knowledge on program evaluation and how this can be executed in their own institutions.

Specific Objectives
At the end of the seminar, the participants will be able to:

1. Recognize the need for program evaluation in ensuring a relevant and effective training program.

2. Identify elements of program evaluation.

3. Develop a realistic evaluation plan for their institution’s clinical training program.
