(They didn’t dub me “slacker OT” for nothing, you know… shhh! )

Anyway, AOTA has published Updated Guidelines for Functional Assessments and Documentation in Home Health based on the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) health policy directives and transmittal requests effective April 1, 2011. The aim is to clarify the roles and expectations of occupational therapists and assistants in the evaluation, documentation and progress measurement for Medicare home health. There is increased emphasis on outcome measurement, accountability to make sure that services are reasonable, necessary, safe and effective. I have uploaded a copy via Scribd for all you OTs out there. Click here to read for yourselves.

Time for new beginnings!

In celebration of Occupational Therapy Month, I will be posting several reading short lists and writing articles on various topics about the profession of occupational therapy. And with no delay, let me start with this article from PsychCentral written by Claire Dorotnik.

By Claire Dorotik, LMFT

For those of you who are interested in the emerging field of equine therapy, finding pertinent resources can sometimes be challenging. While there are many books written on horses and people, and many more written on just horses themselves, they may not entirely explain what equine therapy is, or how it can be used.
